Clear, crisp vision without the need of glasses or contacts is a goal that has led millions of people around the world to Laser Vision Correction (LVC).

The LASIK Procedure (Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis) utilizes the extreme accuracy of the “cool light” excimer laser to reshape your cornea. In reshaping your cornea, LASIK changes the way light is focused or “refracted” by your eye. Whether you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have an astigmatism, changing this refraction is what gives the vast majority of LASIK patients their new, improved vision.

The LASIK procedure consists of three steps. During the first step, Dr. Dillman uses a precise instrument called a microkeratome to create a flap on the outer layer of your cornea, exposing the bed of the cornea to the laser. It is during the second step of the procedure that Dr. Dillman, using the laser for a matter of seconds, will make the actual correction to your cornea. During the third step of LASIK, Dr. Dillman lays the corneal flap back into place and your eye begins healing immediately.

Although each individual is different, for most, the entire procedure is virtually painless and takes about ten minutes per eye. For many, positive results can be seen within hours following the procedure. For some patients, their best, clearest vision won’t be seen at first as their eyes may require a period of adjustment, but even these individuals should see some improvement very early on.

LASIK is the most advanced method of treating refractive errors for most individuals because of its accuracy, predictably and results. Other alternatives are:

  • Glasses
  • Contact Lenses
  • Radial Keratotomy (RK)
  • Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)
  • Keravision Intacs
  • Phakic IOLs
  • Clear Lensectomy
  • Laser Thermal Keratoplasty (LTK) with Holmium YAG Laser
  • Other developing investigational procedures

Dillman Eye Care Associates will evaluate and determine selectively which procedure is most appropriate for each candidate.

The next step toward the ultimate goal of refractive surgery is to have a two-hour comprehensive eye evaluation.

Our comprehensive eye evaluation to determine if you are a candidate is second to none and utilizes, what we believe, is the most advanced corneal mapping technology available. Because of our discerning criteria for patient selection, our brutally honest informed consent process, and Dr. Dillman’s surgical experience, the vast majority of our patients report to us their overall satisfaction with their individual results.

The evaluation includes a thorough dilated eye exam, multiple ocular measurements, an extensive informed consent program, and an in-depth discussion with a refractive surgery team member and/or Dr. David M. Dillman.

We are proud of the fact that we advise about twenty-five percent of our potential LASIK candidates not to have LASIK because they do not meet our strict criteria concerning who we feel can safely undergo LASIK.

Please remember: if you wear hard or gas permeable contact lenses, these must be out for three weeks prior to your refractive surgery evaluation and/or surgery. Soft, daily or extended wear contact lens wearers must have these out for 2 weeks prior to evaluation and/or surgery.

The fee for this evaluation is $140. Payment is due at the time of the evaluation. Insurance is usually not billed for this since it is a preoperative and not a routine eye exam.
