How much does it cost?
Our fee is a global fee of $2250 per eye. That includes the facility fee, surgeon’s fee, postoperative visits for 1 year, and any enhancements (see next question) if needed within the first 12 months. There is an evaluation fee of $140 (which will be credited toward the surgical fee) to obtain all measurements needed for surgery.
We do not want the cost to be an obstacle so we provide affordable monthly payments (CareCredit) with no down payment required. We also accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.

What is an enhancement?
An enhancement is a fancy way of saying a "surgical touch up." Most of the time we are able to get the result we want with a single procedure. However, if, for whatever reason, the result is not what you and we had hoped for, we will consider an enhancement to fine tune the final outcome.

Does insurance cover the procedure?
Generally not. LASIK is still considered elective surgery by insurance companies.

How do I find out if I am a candidate?
We enthusiastically encourage you to come in for a free screening or an evaluation. The evaluation is a complete exam where we will take multiple measurements needed for surgery. This exam takes approximately 2 hours and your pupils will be fully dilated. The cost of the evaluation is $140 which will be credited toward the surgical fee.

What types of things might disqualify me
as a candidate?

Usually people with chronic dry eyes, unusually steep or flat corneas, history of corneal disease, or other ocular related medical problems may not be suitable candidates. These factors would be discussed with you in detail during the evaluation process.

What about my medications?
Very few systemic medications influence the outcome of LASIK. However, individuals who take Acutane (acne), Immetrex and Zomig (migraines), and/or Cordarone (heart arrhythmia) are at a higher risk with LASIK and thus we recommend against LASIK for those individuals.

How many procedures has Dr. Dillman done?
Dr. Dillman has been performing refractive surgery since 1985 and Laser Vision Correction since 1995. Over this span of time, he has performed over 1600 refractive procedures, about half of which have been LASIK.
But, more important than the number of procedures performed is the number of candidates we advise not to have it done. About one fourth of those we evaluate for LASIK are advised not to have it done.

Are there any complications or side effects?
LASIK is a wonderful surgery, but it is just that... surgery. And, with any surgical procedure there are always risks involved. A most important element of our informed consent process is to make crystal clear to you the risks associated with LASIK.

How long does the procedure take and is it painful?
The procedure itself is brief, usually taking about 10 minutes per eye to perform. You may experience some discomfort such as a dry scratchy feeling. A little pain medicine and a little sleep usually help a whole lot and by the following morning we would expect you to be feeling good.

When can I expect to resume normal activities?
The overwhelming majority of patients having LASIK can see well enough to function without glasses or contact lenses for the majority of their activities the day following surgery.

How long do I have to go without wearing my contact lenses prior to the
LASIK procedure?

If you wear hard or gas permeable contact lenses, you must not wear them for three weeks prior to your evaluation and/or procedure. Soft, daily or extended-wear contact lens wearers must not wear them for two weeks prior to your evaluation and/or procedure.

Will my nearsightedness return years down the line?
No! LASIK reshapes the cornea and once your cornea has healed, we expect it to maintain that new shape. As you go through the evaluation process we discuss how that is done.
